Right! Been a bit quite over the summer regarding posts and new work mostly because i've been helping out on an epic monster, namely.. If you haven't guessed it.

The graphic Novel adaptation of Robert Muchamores first book in the Cherub series
' The Recruit '. Drawn by John Aggs, scripted by Ian Edginton. With me working as a colourist doing the flat colours. ^_^

It was great experiance and one that if i had the chance to do i would do again. Johns done a really great job with the artwork and Ian's script makes for a great read.

I'm really Looking forward to seeing a printed copy, as things are always a bit different working on screen until it's been printed. ^_^

But it's back to work and onto new fields as i have new story's and artwork to get finished and up on here ( so much stuff to scan! ).

Process

I generally don't explain to most how i actually make a peice of work as most if not 100% of the time the main work is already processed and polished in my head before i even start to drawn on a page. But it goes a little something like this..

Quick thumbnail gets sketched out on a handy pad.

I've Ruled out the dimensions for the page im working on as it's a book cover with just a spine. both are st out before sketching. I've added guides to help get the layout right for the wells brick work.

A bit of refrance comes in handy ^_^ i usually take a picture with the camera and then have it in one hand on the screen as i sketch with the right.

Then i'll add in the text as im doing hand written type for the cover it needs to be in place before i start inking. The right hand pic is the final inked version, it's a mix of brush and indian inks and sharpies.

Pretty fun project. It'll be on display at Crawleys Wordfest for an exhibition on alternative book covers. Around 30 artists were asked to contribute to the show and each of the covers will be on books as part of the show. ^_^

Whores of Mensa!

I recently had the opportunity ( thanks to a savy purchase this summer of a 4 colour carousel for a steal of a price!! ) to print some t-shirts designs for a friend, none other than whores of mensa's Ellen Lindner. The shirt featuring a design by Cliodhna Lyons, Maartje Schalkx and Ellen Lindner and can be found and purchased here Etsy store!;

I Love doing projects like this as it's a great to work with someone throwing back and forth ideas and refining it down to it's finalised form. Plus i really love screen printing!
I've screen printed work for people/companies before as one off for fashion houses and clients looking for something really different but hand tailored.

Screen printing your own work from start to finish is awesome, I never really seem to get tired of seeing the whole process unfold even if it's a drawing i've already seen a hundred times. Once you start printing positives and burning screens, it just takes a on a whole new perspective.

So it's a nice break to set a design down and just go with it but on a mini (mass) production scale. As you see.. ^_^

Often the death of a character or individual can be distressing. Not so in a t-shirt or character design, as more often than not they just tend to take on a new lease of life. Which is a bit of a contradiction really.

I have to say the zombie version of mickey, is one of my all time faves that just warrants, seeing more versions of Disney style characters in half dead mode...

zombie queen was a lot of fun to do, and really quick in terms of brush work that went into it, much looser way of working than i normally ink stuff.

Okay this one is a bit random, this was done for a friend of mine as a favour. Generally i don't paint or draw other people work.. well sometimes i might doodle out a character of someone but a version in my own style. Anyways Alex has this thing about a comic called 'Battle Pope' by Robert Kirkman and Tony Moore, its weird but funny and the art work is actually pretty cool... so there you go.

sometimes i get the urge to just draw, like on a random. usually at like 4 in the morning and I'm in between sorting work for a project. So you end up doodling and instead of setting it aside you end up finishing off. I had Full metal jacket on in the background while i was working ^_^

I think i might turn this into a T-shirt design but needs a bit of text... off for a doodle...

Paris Show

Recently i had been asked to do some promotional work for a Paris show that was going on at Tranoi , It was a bit of a mad endeavour, i only got 2 weeks notice about getting it all designed printed and ready for shipping. So like the mad man i am ended up buying an A3 laser and printing it all myself.... mission. But i really like how it turned out.

Well as it happens at Christmas i was asked to design a store front, they wanted something that was gonna be made in see through vinyl. I really like how it turned out i just wish the company who'd put it up had done it with less bubble's under the vinyl... and a nice long fold in the middle.

I only wish I'd managed to take a proper photo of it ^_^

I love to paint, illustrate and draw comics... LOVE IT. It won't always pay the bills, so i design as well, weather is web stuff or print media P.O.S etc, it may seem like a totally different line of work but it's not. things like business cards can become mini canvas's of crazy creations. With better printing and cutting techniques they've really been an awesome way to show creativity.
Logo's are another thing, i think out side of the design world there kind of underrated by people. But if you ever get a chance, while in a book store look for a book in the design/arts section on logo's and you'll be amazed at what you people do.

Portrait work

Okay these are a bit old now for portrait work that I've done recently, but there golden oldies. these two are still in my top ten of favourites I've done over the years. Most notably because the first one here on the list was the first time I'd ever painted in oils and the first portrait I'd ever painted. double whammy.

Okay finally managed to drag myself away from my work life and back onto my blog. So thanks to the economy i have more time to post up more work ^_^

First of many..

Well this is me im an illustrator umongst other things. i pretty much draw for a living but i have been known to dabble in a few things here and there. Anyways you'll see what i mean..

for the meantime here's some randomness that always seems to happen at 5am just when im about to get to sleep. 'PING' that preverbial light comes on just as i turn the actual ones off and then the magic starts..

It was a pencil sketch that was inked straight after brush work all the way through except for the twirlly bits at the bottom and coloured on CS3

An oxymoron (plural oxymorons or, more rarely, oxymora) is a figure of speech that combines two normally contradictory terms. Oxymoron is a loanword from Greek oxy ("sharp" or "pointed") and moros ("dull"). Thus the word oxymoron is itself an oxymoron.

I think this pretty much sums me up in a single word. Or should it be a defining characteristic either way its me.
